Problem

A straight wire is placed horizontally above and parallel to a magnetic compass. When a current of 5 A flows from south to north through the wire, the north pole of the compass needle deflects toward the east. If the current direction is reversed while its magnitude remains the same, the needle will (a) deflect toward the west by twice the angle. (b) deflect toward the west by the same angle. (c) again deflect toward the east by the same angle. (d) remain parallel to the geographic north–south direction.
