An electric appliance is rated 1.5 kW, 230 V and operates with a lagging power factor of 0.85 when connected to the domestic mains.
(i) Determine the r.m.s current drawn by the appliance from the mains.
(ii) Calculate the apparent power taken from the supply.
(iii) If the appliance could be operated at unity power factor with the same real power output, what current would it draw? Find the percentage reduction in current compared with part (i).
