Schottky defect in crystals is observed when:
(1) Unequal numbers of cations and anions are missing from the crystal lattice.
(2) Equal numbers of cations and anions are missing from the crystal lattice.
(3) An atom leaves its normal site and occupies an interstitial site.
(4) The density of the crystal is increased.
