Problem

The singly-ionised lithium atom (Li2+^{2+}, Z=3Z=3) has a hydrogen-like energy level structure. Its electron is excited to the sixth orbit (n=6n=6) and subsequently returns to lower levels. (i) Find the maximum number of different photons that can be emitted before the electron reaches the ground state. (ii) Write the expression for the wavelength of the photon emitted in the transition from n=6n=6 to n=5n=5, and calculate its numerical value. Take the Rydberg constant for hydrogen as RH=1.097×107 m−1R_{H}=1.097\times10^{7}\,\text{m}^{-1}.
