Problem

An ideal transformer has Np=1000N_p = 1000 turns in the primary and Ns=100N_s = 100 turns in the secondary. The primary is connected to a 220 V220\,\text{V}, 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} supply. Initially, a single 50 Ω50\,\Omega resistor is connected across the secondary. Later, an identical 50 Ω50\,\Omega resistor is connected in parallel with the first one across the secondary. (a) Calculate the rms current in the primary before the second resistor is connected. (b) Calculate the rms current in the primary after both resistors are connected in parallel. (c) Find the percentage increase in the transformer’s input power due to the addition of the second resistor.
