Problem

Define h:R∖{−2}→R∖{1}h:\mathbb R\setminus\{-2\}\to \mathbb R\setminus\{1\} by h(x)=xx+2h(x)=\dfrac{x}{x+2}. (i) For an arbitrary yy in the codomain, solve h(x)=yh(x)=y for xx. (ii) Verify that the solution obtained in (i) never equals x=−2x=-2 and identify any extraneous roots, if present. (iii) Hence prove that hh is surjective onto its codomain R∖{1}\mathbb R\setminus\{1\}.
