Problem
An electric immersion heater is marked “220 V – 500 W”.
(i) Calculate the current drawn by the heater when it is operated at the marked voltage.
(ii) Determine its resistance under these operating conditions.
(iii) If the same heater is connected to a 110 V supply and its resistance is assumed to remain unchanged, find the current drawn and the power now consumed.
(iv) The heater is used on the 110 V supply for 30 min. Compute the electrical energy consumed in kilowatt-hour.
