Problem

Consider the two linear equations x=−3x = -3 and y=4y = 4 in the Cartesian plane. (i) State which of the above two lines is parallel to the x-axis and which is parallel to the y-axis. (ii) Explain, using the meaning of abscissa and ordinate, why every point on the line x=−3x = -3 has the same x-coordinate, while every point on the line y=4y = 4 has the same y-coordinate. (iii) Write the coordinates of any three distinct points that lie on each of the two lines.
