Problem

Two adjacent angles form a linear pair. Their measures are (5y−7)∘(5y-7)^{\circ} and (3y+17)∘(3y+17)^{\circ}. (a) Find the value of yy. (b) Calculate the measure of each angle. (c) Verify algebraically that the two angles are supplementary for the value of yy obtained in part (a). (d) If yy is increased by 44, write the new measures of the angles and state, with reasons, whether the pair remains supplementary.
