Problem

A sealed syringe contains 0.002 m30.002\,\text{m}^3 of an ideal gas at a pressure of 1.1×105 Pa1.1\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa} and temperature 27∘C27^{\circ}\text{C}. The gas is compressed isothermally until its volume becomes 5.0×10−4 m35.0\times10^{-4}\,\text{m}^3. (i) Calculate the final pressure of the gas. (ii) Determine the percentage increase in pressure produced by the compression. (iii) State, with reason, whether work is done on the gas or by the gas during this process.
