Problem

Two objects—a thin hoop and a solid disk—each have mass 1.0 kg1.0\,\text{kg} and radius 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m}. For each object, the rotational inertia about an axis parallel to and 0.05 m0.05\,\text{m} from the central axis is measured: Ihoop′=0.050 kg⋅m2I'_{\text{hoop}} = 0.050\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2 and Idisk′=0.035 kg⋅m2I'_{\text{disk}} = 0.035\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2. Determine the rotational inertia of each object about its central axis and state which object has the greater value.
