Problem

Two blocks are connected by a light string that passes over a smooth pulley fixed at the junction of two smooth inclined planes. Block m1=3 kgm_1 = 3\,\text{kg} rests on a plane inclined at 30∘30^\circ to the horizontal, while block m2=4 kgm_2 = 4\,\text{kg} rests on another plane inclined at 45∘45^\circ to the horizontal. The string is along the line of greatest slope of each plane. (a) Draw the free-body diagram for each block, showing all forces acting on them. (b) Taking motion along the line of greatest slope, derive an expression for the acceleration of the system in terms of m1m_1, m2m_2, gg, θ1\theta_1 and θ2\theta_2. (c) Using the given data, calculate the acceleration and the tension in the string. (d) Determine the normal reaction exerted by each plane on its respective block during the motion.
