Problem

Two athletes, P and Q, start a race together on a straight track. Athlete P runs with a constant speed of 8 m/s8 \text{ m/s} throughout, while athlete Q starts from rest and runs with a constant acceleration of 0.5 m/s20.5 \text{ m/s}^2. Determine the minimum length of the race such that both runners finish at the same time (so that Q wins or ties with P), and also calculate the maximum distance by which P is ahead of Q at any instant during the race.
