Problem

A ball is projected vertically upward from ground level with an initial speed of 30 m s−130\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Neglect air resistance and take g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2} downward. (i) Calculate the time taken by the ball to reach its highest point. (ii) Determine the maximum height attained by the ball above the point of projection. (iii) Find the speed of the ball 2 s2\,\text{s} after it has passed the highest point on its way down. (iv) Compute the total time for which the ball remains in air before returning to the point of projection.
