Problem

A block slides on a smooth plane that makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the horizontal. The block is projected up the plane with an initial speed of 5.0 m s−15.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. (i) Derive an expression for the distance ss travelled up the plane before coming momentarily to rest. (ii) Calculate the numerical value of ss. (iii) Find the total time elapsed from the instant of projection until the block returns to the point of projection. (iv) Determine the speed with which the block passes the point of projection on its way down.
