Problem

Rahul places a small lighted candle on the principal axis of a concave spherical mirror whose radius of curvature is 40 cm40\,\text{cm}. The candle is 25 cm25\,\text{cm} in front of the pole of the mirror. (i) State the mathematical relation between the radius of curvature RR and the focal length ff of a spherical mirror. (ii) Using the data given, calculate the focal length of the mirror and write it with the proper sign according to the Cartesian sign convention. (iii) Determine the position of the image formed. Mention whether the image is real or virtual. (iv) Find the linear magnification produced by the mirror and comment on the size and orientation of the image in comparison with the object.
