Problem

Consider the function ff defined by f(x)={4x2−5x+1,x<2,kx+7,x≥2,f(x) = \begin{cases} 4x^2 - 5x + 1, & x < 2, \\ kx + 7, & x \ge 2, \end{cases} where kk is a real constant. (1) Part 1: (a) Compute lim⁡x→2−f(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to 2^-} f(x) and lim⁡x→2+f(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to 2^+} f(x) in terms of kk. Show your work. (2) Part 2: (b) Determine the value of kk for which ff is continuous at x=2x = 2. Justify your answer algebraically. (3) Part 3: (c) Using the value of kk found in part (b), evaluate lim⁡x→2f(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to 2} f(x).
