Problem

A student whose weight is 600 N first stands barefoot on the floor and then puts on shoes that have very narrow heels. (i) The total area of contact of both bare feet with the floor is 400 cm², whereas the combined area of the two heel tips of the shoes is 6 cm². Convert both areas into square metres. (ii) Calculate the pressure exerted on the floor in each case. (iii) By what factor does the pressure change when the student shifts from standing barefoot to standing on the heel tips?
