Problem

An experimental AM receiver uses a variable air-gang capacitor whose capacitance can be adjusted continuously from 60 pF to 310 pF. The designer wishes the same circuit to tune the upper end of the medium-wave band at 1.6 MHz when the capacitor is at its minimum value. (i) Calculate the value of the inductance required so that the circuit resonates at 1.6 MHz when the capacitor is 60 pF. (ii) Using the inductance found in (i), determine the lowest frequency that can be tuned when the capacitor is set to its maximum value of 310 pF. (iii) Does the tuning range obtained in (ii) fully cover the standard medium-wave band that starts at 530 kHz? State your answer with reasoning.
