Problem

A scooter starts from rest at a traffic signal and moves in a straight line with uniform acceleration. After taking some readings, a student records the following information: Initial velocity at the signal: 0 m/s0\,\text{m/s} Velocity after 5 s5\,\text{s}: 18 m/s18\,\text{m/s} Assuming the acceleration remains the same for the next 3 s3\,\text{s}, answer the following. (i) Calculate the magnitude of the scooter’s acceleration during the first 5 s5\,\text{s}. (ii) Find the velocity of the scooter at the end of the next 3 s3\,\text{s}. (iii) State whether the acceleration obtained in part (i) is positive or negative. Give one reason for your answer.
