Problem
The electric field at a point A located 0.30 m to the left of an isolated point charge on the x-axis is found to be 180 N C−1 directed to the right. At another point B located 0.45 m to the right of the charge, the field magnitude is 320 N C−1 directed to the left.
(i) Using the measurement at A, calculate the magnitude of the charge.
(ii) Using the measurement at B, calculate the magnitude of the charge.
(iii) Comment on the sign of the charge and reconcile any discrepancy between the two numerical values obtained in parts (i) and (ii).
