Problem

Consider the parametric curve x=t3−3tx=t^{3}-3t and y=t4−4t2+5y=t^{4}-4t^{2}+5. (i) Show that dydx=4t3−8t3t2−3\dfrac{dy}{dx}=\dfrac{4t^{3}-8t}{3t^{2}-3}. (ii) Determine all real values of tt for which the tangent to the curve is horizontal. (iii) Determine all real values of tt for which the tangent to the curve is vertical. (iv) For each value of tt obtained in parts (ii) and (iii), find the corresponding coordinates of the points on the curve.
