Problem

The coordinates of three watering taps in the school garden are A(2,3)A(2,3), B(10,7)B(10,7) and C(2,15)C(2,15). (i) Calculate the length of the pipe required to connect tap AA directly to tap BB. (ii) Calculate the length of pipe required to connect tap BB directly to tap CC. (iii) Determine the total length of pipe needed if tap AA is connected to tap CC by first joining AA to BB and then BB to CC. (iv) Find the length of pipe that would be needed to connect tap AA directly to tap CC. Compare your answer with the result obtained in part (iii) and comment on which arrangement uses less piping.
