Problem

A bag contains 33 red, 22 blue and 11 green ball. Two balls are drawn successively without replacement, and the order of drawing is noted. (i) List all possible ordered pairs of colours that can occur. Hence write the sample space SS. (ii) Let BB be the event “both balls are of the same colour.” List the favourable outcomes for BB and state n(B)n(B). (iii) Let CC be the event “at least one ball drawn is red.” List the favourable outcomes for CC and state n(C)n(C). (iv) Verify that n(C)+n(C′)=n(S)n(C)+n(C')=n(S), where C′C' is the complement of CC.
