Problem

A student pulls a wooden sled along a smooth horizontal surface. She exerts a constant horizontal pull of 0.6 kN0.6\,\text{kN} opposite to the direction in which the sled is sliding. During the pull the sled moves 40 cm40\,\text{cm} before coming to rest. (i) Convert the given force and displacement into SI base units. (ii) Calculate the work done by the student on the sled and state its sign. (iii) Does the student’s pull increase or decrease the kinetic energy of the sled? Justify your answer in one sentence.
