Problem

An electronic component must be operated at a potential difference of exactly 1 V1\,\text{V} for proper functioning. A variable energy source is available in the laboratory. (i) Derive an expression for the charge QQ that must be moved when the available energy from the source is WW to maintain the required potential difference of 1 V1\,\text{V}. (ii) The source can supply up to 120 J120\,\text{J} of energy in a single discharge. Calculate the maximum charge that can pass through the component while still maintaining 1 V1\,\text{V}. (iii) If the experiment requires 12 C12\,\text{C} of charge to pass, determine the minimum energy that must be supplied. Comment on whether the 120 J120\,\text{J} source is adequate. (iv) Show that if the energy supplied per coulomb deviates by 0.2 J0.2\,\text{J} from 1 J1\,\text{J}, the potential difference deviates by the same numerical amount in volts. Give a brief justification.
