Problem

A 0.5 kg0.5\,\text{kg} ball is projected horizontally from the top of a building. (i) At the instant it leaves the thrower’s hand its speed is 10 m/s10\,\text{m/s}. Calculate its kinetic energy at that instant. (ii) Just before the ball reaches the ground (air resistance neglected) its speed is 25 m/s25\,\text{m/s}. Calculate its kinetic energy at that moment. (iii) Find the ratio of the kinetic energies obtained in parts (ii) and (i). Comment briefly on how the change in speed has affected the kinetic energy.
