Problem

A ceiling fan has blades each of length 0.30 m0.30\,\text{m}. Starting from 900 rpm900\,\text{rpm} it speeds up uniformly to 1800 rpm1800\,\text{rpm} in 10 s10\,\text{s}. Consider the tip of a blade. (i) Determine the uniform angular acceleration during the speed-up interval. (ii) Obtain expressions for the tangential and centripetal components of the linear acceleration of the blade tip as functions of time tt (0≤t≤10 s)(0\le t\le10\,\text{s}). (iii) On the same set of axes, sketch qualitatively the variation of these two acceleration components with time and briefly comment on their relative magnitudes at t=0t=0 and t=10 st=10\,\text{s}. (iv) Calculate the magnitude of the resultant linear acceleration of the tip at t=5 st = 5\,\text{s}.
