Problem

A student of mass 60 kg60\,\text{kg} climbs a staircase and rises vertically by 5.0 m5.0\,\text{m} in each climb. (i) Calculate the mechanical work done by the student in one climb. (ii) Express your answer in kilojoules. (iii) Convert this work into food calories (1 kcal=4.186 kJ1\,\text{kcal} = 4.186\,\text{kJ}). (iv) A chocolate bar supplies 200 kcal200\,\text{kcal} of energy. Estimate how many such climbs would use up the energy obtained from one chocolate bar.
