Problem

Let g(x)=bxg(x)=b^{x} where 0<b<10<b<1. Answer the following. (i) Show that g(x)g(x) is a decreasing function on R\mathbb R. (ii) Solve the inequality 0.42x−3>0.4x+10.4^{2x-3}>0.4^{x+1} for real xx, giving the solution set in interval notation. (iii) Using your answer to part (ii), determine which number is larger: A=0.45A=0.4^{\sqrt{5}} or B=0.47−1B=0.4^{\sqrt{7}-1}. Give reasons for your choice.
