Problem

A platinum resistance thermometer has a resistance of 46.0 Ω at 10 °C and 58.1 Ω at 100 °C. (i) Calculate the numerical value of its temperature coefficient of resistivity at 10 °C, assuming it remains constant over the temperature interval concerned. (ii) Using this value, determine the resistance of the thermometer at –20 °C. (iii) Find the percentage change in resistance of the thermometer when it is cooled from 10 °C to –20 °C.
