Problem

A planet of mass 6.0×1024 kg6.0\times10^{24}\,\text{kg} has a radius R=6.4×106 mR = 6.4\times10^{6}\,\text{m}. Two identical communication satellites, each of mass 1000 kg1000\,\text{kg}, revolve in circular orbits around the planet. Satellite A orbits at a distance 2R2R from the planet’s centre, while Satellite B orbits at 4R4R. Take G=6.67×10−11 N m2kg−2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N m}^{2}\text{kg}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the gravitational force acting on Satellite A. (ii) Without re-substituting all constants, determine the gravitational force on Satellite B by making use of the appropriate ratio. (iii) Find the ratio FB/FAF_B/F_A and express it as a simple fraction.
