Problem
A rigid, circular conducting loop of radius 0.10m begins in a vertical plane with its area vector pointing due east. In that position it experiences a uniform 0.40T magnetic field directed due east. The loop is rotated at constant angular speed so that, 0.20s later, its area vector points due west (a 180∘ rotation).
Assume the rotation axis is horizontal and lies in the plane of the loop through its center.
(a) Determine the change in magnetic flux through the loop during the 180∘ rotation.
(b) Derive an expression for the magnitude of the average induced emf in terms of the given quantities.
(c) Describe how the direction of the induced current varies throughout the rotation. In your answer, indicate any moments when the current momentarily becomes zero and explain why.
(d) The loop is immediately rotated through another 180∘ in the same direction and in the same amount of time. Predict the pattern of the induced emf and current during this second half-turn and compare it to the first.
