Problem

In a right-angled triangle ABC, ∠B = 90°. The lengths of the three sides are not given. (i) With reference to the acute angle ∠A, name the side that is: (a) opposite to the angle (b) adjacent to the angle (c) the hypotenuse. (ii) With reference to the acute angle ∠C, name the side that is: (a) opposite to the angle (b) adjacent to the angle (c) the hypotenuse. (iii) Give a brief explanation, in your own words, of why the same side cannot be both “opposite” and “adjacent” for a single acute angle in a right-angled triangle.
