Problem

Two very long parallel conductors are placed in vacuum at a separation of 8 cm8\,\text{cm}. The first conductor carries a current I1=25 AI_1=25\,\text{A} directed into the page, while the second carries an unknown current I2I_2 directed out of the page. (i) Write an expression for the magnitude and direction of the resultant magnetic field at the point midway between the two conductors in terms of I1I_1 and I2I_2. (ii) If the magnetic field at this midway point is observed to be zero, determine the value of I2I_2. (iii) Using the value of I2I_2 obtained in part (ii), calculate the magnitude and direction of the force per unit length acting on the first conductor. Express the answer in newton per metre.
