Problem

Two closed surfaces S1S_1 (a cube) and S2S_2 (a sphere) enclose the same point charge qq at their respective centres and are situated in vacuum. (i) Will the electric flux through S1S_1 and S2S_2 be equal or different? Explain your answer. (ii) Will the distribution of the electric field on the two surfaces be identical? Give a qualitative justification. (iii) If the region inside S1S_1 is filled with a dielectric of relative permittivity 22 while S2S_2 remains in vacuum, comment on the electric flux through each surface, giving reasons for your answer.
