Problem

An object moves along a straight track. Its velocity v(t)v(t) (in meters per second) for 0≤t≤80\le t\le 8 seconds is given by the following piecewise–linear description. • v(t)v(t) increases linearly from 00 to 66 on 0≤t≤2.0\le t\le 2. • v(t)v(t) decreases linearly from 66 to −2-2 on 2<t≤5.2< t\le 5. • v(t)v(t) remains constant at −2-2 on 5<t≤8.5< t\le 8. (a) Calculate the displacement of the object over the time interval 0≤t≤8.0\le t\le 8. (b) Determine the total distance traveled by the object on 0≤t≤8.0\le t\le 8. (c) Compute the average velocity of the object on 0≤t≤8.0\le t\le 8. (d) If the object’s position is 5 m5\text{ m} at t=0,t=0, find its position at t=8 s.t=8\text{ s}.
