Problem

An aluminium strip of mass 0.05 kg0.05\,\text{kg} slides down smooth, non-magnetic rails inclined at 30∘30^{\circ} to the horizontal. The rails are 0.15 m0.15\,\text{m} apart and are connected at the lower end by a resistance of 0.10 Ω0.10\,\Omega. The region between the rails is occupied by a uniform vertical magnetic field of 0.40 T0.40\,\text{T}. After a short time the strip moves with a constant terminal speed vv. Which value is closest to vv? (a) 6.9 m s−16.9\,\text{m s}^{-1} (b) 9.2 m s−19.2\,\text{m s}^{-1} (c) 2.3 m s−12.3\,\text{m s}^{-1} (d) 4.6 m s−14.6\,\text{m s}^{-1}
