Problem

A gardener pushes a lawn-mower of mass 20 kg20\,\text{kg} along a level path by applying a constant force of 40 N40\,\text{N} on the handle which makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the horizontal. The mower is moved through a distance of 15 m15\,\text{m} along the ground. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the mower and the ground is 0.250.25. (i) Calculate the work done by the gardener’s applied force during the 15 m15\,\text{m} displacement. (ii) Calculate the work done by the force of kinetic friction over the same displacement. (iii) State whether the net work done on the mower is positive, negative, or zero and justify your answer with the values obtained.
