Problem

A vector A\mathbf{A} has a magnitude of 25 m25\,\text{m} and is directed at an angle of 40∘40^{\circ} above the negative xx-axis (that is, in the second quadrant). (i) Explain the procedure for resolving a vector of known magnitude and direction into its rectangular components. (ii) Using the method explained in part (i), calculate the xx- and yy-components of A\mathbf{A}. (iii) Write A\mathbf{A} in unit–vector notation and obtain the unit vector along A\mathbf{A}.
