Problem

A walker covers the following positions according to his distance–time graph: (0 s,0 m)(0\,\text{s},0\,\text{m}), (3 s,6 m)(3\,\text{s},6\,\text{m}), (6 s,12 m)(6\,\text{s},12\,\text{m}), and (10 s,12 m)(10\,\text{s},12\,\text{m}). Between listed points the graph is made of straight-line segments. Answer the questions that follow. (i) Calculate the average speed of the walker for the interval 0 s0\,\text{s} to 6 s6\,\text{s}. (ii) Determine the average speed for the entire journey from 0 s0\,\text{s} to 10 s10\,\text{s}. (iii) Identify the time interval during which the walker is at rest and explain how the graph shows this. (iv) If the walker resumes motion at t=10 st=10\,\text{s} with the same speed as in the first 3 s3\,\text{s}, where will he be at t=14 st=14\,\text{s}? Show your working.
