Problem

Answer the following questions regarding the periodicity and sign of the secant function. (i) Prove that cos⁡(θ+2πk)\cos(\theta+2\pi k) and hence sec⁡(θ+2πk)\sec(\theta+2\pi k) have the same sign as cos⁡θ\cos\theta and sec⁡θ\sec\theta respectively, for every integer kk. (ii) Using part (i), find all integers kk for which sec⁡ ⁣(π3+2πk)\sec\!\left(\dfrac{\pi}{3}+2\pi k\right) is negative. (iii) Within one complete revolution 0<θ<2π0<\theta<2\pi, determine all intervals of θ\theta for which both sin⁡θ\sin\theta and sec⁡θ\sec\theta are negative simultaneously. Justify your answer with quadrant analysis.
