Problem

(a) Define a series circuit and a parallel circuit with respect to the flow of current and potential difference across the components. (b) State any TWO limitations that would be faced if all electrical appliances in a house were wired in series. (c) Explain, with suitable reasoning based on potential difference and equivalent resistance, why connecting appliances in parallel overcomes the limitations stated in part (b). (d) A student claims that the current supplied by the mains will be the same in every appliance irrespective of the type of connection used. Analyse this statement and justify whether it is correct or incorrect.
