Problem

A small aerial drone moves vertically along a guide rail. Downward is the negative direction. • Starting from rest at the bottom of the rail, the drone accelerates upward at 2.0 m/s22.0\,\text{m/s}^2 for 4.0 s4.0\,\text{s}. • Immediately afterward, it experiences a constant downward acceleration of 2.0 m/s22.0\,\text{m/s}^2 for 6.0 s6.0\,\text{s}, after which it has returned to its starting point. Neglect air resistance. (1) Part 1: (a) On axes in your response booklet, draw the acceleration–time graph for the entire 10.0 s10.0\,\text{s} interval. (2) Part 2: (b) Using the acceleration graph from part (a), construct the corresponding velocity–time graph, labeling numerical values of the velocity at the end of each interval. (3) Part 3: (c) Determine the maximum height the drone reaches above its starting point. Show your reasoning. (4) Part 4: (d) On a new set of axes, sketch the position–time graph for the full 10.0 s10.0\,\text{s} of motion, labeling key points such as the maximum height and the return to the starting point.
