Problem
Two long parallel straight conductors A and B are placed horizontally in air at a separation of 3.0cm. Conductor A carries a current of 15A towards the east, while conductor B carries a current of 20A towards the west.
(i) Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant magnetic field at a point midway between the two conductors.
(ii) State the direction of the magnetic force exerted by conductor B on conductor A and give reasons for your answer.
(iii) If both currents are simultaneously reversed in direction while keeping their magnitudes unchanged, what changes will occur in the answers obtained in parts (i) and (ii)? Explain clearly.
