Problem

A motorcycle starts from rest at a traffic signal, moves along a straight road and comes to rest at the next signal 250 m away. Its motion is described as follows: • It accelerates uniformly for 10 s. • It then continues with constant speed for the next 100 m. • Finally, it is brought to rest in 5 s by applying the brakes. Answer the following: (i) Calculate the speed attained at the end of the acceleration phase. (ii) Find the distance covered during the acceleration phase. (iii) Determine the magnitude of the deceleration during braking and the distance covered while the brakes are applied. (iv) Compute the total time taken for the journey and the average speed for the whole trip.
