Problem
A horizontal water tank is formed by joining a right circular cylinder with two identical hemispherical ends so that their plane faces fit exactly. The internal radius of the cylinder is 1.4 m and its length (excluding the hemispherical ends) is 4 m.
(i) Determine the volume of water the tank can hold when completely filled.
(ii) The entire curved outside surface of the tank (including the hemispherical ends) is to be painted. Find the area to be painted, leaving out the circular rim where the tank rests on its supports.
(iii) If the cost of painting is Rs 55 per square metre, find the total painting cost. (Use π=22/7.)
