Problem

Two parallel horizontal lines pp and qq are cut by two distinct transversals mm and nn. The points of intersection are as follows: mm meets pp at PP and qq at RR; nn meets pp at QQ and qq at SS. At PP the acute angle between mm and pp is denoted by ∠α\angle \alpha. At RR the angle between mm and qq that is situated in the corresponding position to ∠α\angle \alpha is denoted by ∠β\angle \beta. At QQ the interior angle between nn and pp on the right of nn is denoted by ∠γ\angle \gamma, and at SS the exterior angle between nn and qq on the right of nn is denoted by ∠δ\angle \delta. (i) State the relationship between ∠α\angle \alpha and ∠β\angle \beta and give a reason. (ii) State the relationship between ∠γ\angle \gamma and ∠δ\angle \delta and give a reason. (iii) Decide, with justification, whether ∠α+∠δ\angle \alpha + \angle \delta is always equal to 180∘180^{\circ}, always equal to 90∘90^{\circ}, or has no fixed value.
