Problem

The ends of a copper rod of length 1 m1\,\text{m} and cross-sectional area 1 cm21\,\text{cm}^2 are maintained at 0∘C0^\circ\text{C} and 100∘C100^\circ\text{C}. At the centre of the rod there is a heat source of power 25 W25\,\text{W}. Calculate the temperature gradient in the two halves of the rod in steady state. The thermal conductivity of copper is 400 W m−1K−1400\,\text{W m}^{-1}\text{K}^{-1}.
