Problem

(i) State the signs of the abscissa and the ordinate for each of the four quadrants of the Cartesian plane. A school project asks students to record positions of four birds spotted during an excursion. The recorded coordinates are: A(−3,4)( -3,4), B(0,−5)(0,-5), C(6,−2)(6,-2) and D(−7,0)( -7,0). (ii) For each point, mention clearly the quadrant in which it lies or the axis on which it is located. (iii) Give a brief explanation in 1–2 sentences for every answer in part (ii), referring only to the sign of the abscissa and the sign of the ordinate. (iv) Starting from the first quadrant and moving clockwise, arrange the points that lie strictly inside a quadrant (that is, do not lie on any axis) in the order in which they would be met. Write your reasoning.
